Pattambi Nercha, Palakkad Overview

Pattambi Nercha is an annual feast and carnival of the Pattambi Mosque situated in Palakkad district of Tamil Nadu. The mosque is dedicated to the Muslim saint and pir of Malabar- Aloor Valiya Pookunjikoya Thangal, in whose memory the festival is celebrated. The festivities are a grand affair when the entire town comes alive and is lit up in electric bulbs and is decorated with tinsel and colourful strings. In addition to this, a grand procession is carried out with a 100 caparisoned elephants amidst a vibrant display of music, colours and avid celebration.

The trail also has several traditional musical ensembles like the thayambaka and the panchavadyam. Besides, several local dance forms like the Duffumuttu and Kolkali are also performed. Several folk arts and crafts are also showcased. This procession winds up at night on the banks of the Bharatapuzha after reaching a high crescendo.
