The memorial built to honor the various martyrs of a number of battles comprises the Cenotaph, ANZAC Bluff Commemorative Plaque, Court of Contemplation, Flame of Remembrance, and Pool of Reflection. The memorial was originally established in 1929 to honor the fallen service members of the First World War. The memorial also consists of marble tablets and bronze plaques with the name inscriptions of various fallen Australians, both men and women, to honor them.
