ISKCON Pondicherry, Pondicherry Overview
Situated in the Krishna Nagar locality of Pondicherry, ISKCON Pondicherry is a Hindu revered temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and his consort, colloquially known as ‘Ashta Devi’. More precisely, the centre is a spiritual society, the name ‘ISKCON’ literally translating to International Society for Krishna Consciousness. The idea of the spiritual centre was formed by Sri A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1966 and the first temple of its kind came into existence in New York. However, as of now, the community has risen to 400 temples, 40 rural communities and over 100 vegetarian restaurants.
ISKCON Pondicherry boasts of impressive architecture, exquisite statues of Lord Krishna and his consort. Besides, the entire atmosphere has a spiritual vibe to it. At all times, the temple reverberates with sublime chants of ‘Hare Krishna Hare Rama’. The shrine promotes the principles of God consciousness, self-realization, unity and peace.
