Legendary sages, including the Goswami Naga sages belonging to the Dashnami Sanyasi sect, are believed to spend time near the Kankali pond. They meditated and prayed to the divine deity. Hence, they also decided to build a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the middle of the pond. There are stones arranged on the sides of the pond which enhances the temple's antiquity. Even in the present times, sages can be seen meditating peacefully near the pond.
