OVERVIEW: Lapped inside the scenic contours of Rotorua, a place of abundant lakes and exotic fauna Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park is an exclusive wildlife centre specially curated for the tourists all across to see what New Zealand boasts of. There is an eclectic range of guided tours by some of their professional tour guides who will let you in about the varied range of reptiles, birds, mammals you will come across in their park

The Kiwi Hatchery and nursery is one of the most remarkable sightseeing spots after the waterfalls that dot the area at several corners. 


You will come across various types of trout, Rainbow trout, Brown Trout, Tiger Trout and North American trout in the flowing streams, fish and take some of them back home. There are places in the park that are known for breeding some exclusive and rare birdlife Kiwi, Kaka, Kea, and Kereru. For children the park also some fun rides like the Big Splash, a waterslide, or an early morning bird watching in an open-air aviary.

Things to Do

Guided tour- A dedicated team of experienced guides will take the visitors through the very insides of the park, make you see and notice the rich fauna of New Zealand lush land, introduce you to exotic species. The fauna comprises of birdlife like parrots, keas and kaka and of course the kiwis.

The guides will let you in about the conservation facts about some of the exotic and rare breeds. The reptile family comprises of geckos, skinks and the massive tuataras. The tours are available in multiple languages, English and Chinese being the central ones.


The Big Splash Waterslide Ride- The ride is included in your day pass itself and is a fun ride for children. It is a 9-minute ride that will take them through a glimpse of a thrilling water adventure right through the greenery of Rotorua. The rides are open from 9:30-5: 00 pm with an afternoon break of 1 hour from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm.The rules of the ride are:

  • Children must be of at least 5 years of age.
  • They are to be accompanied by an adult, or someone who is more than 16 years of age.
  • The adult accompanying is to be seated adjacent to the child and is responsible for his/her actions and welfare.
  • Children are not supposed to occupy the front rows of the ride.

    There are hidden installations of playscapes inside the corners of the trail you will walkthrough. It is informative for children about the native species of New Zealand and their conservation. There is also a water play area where you will get to see the water moving mechanically.

Kiwi Burrow- It is a fun and informative wing of the park where you will stand in a massive, human-sized  Kiwi egg and know about the rare and exotic breed, and the conservation steps taken by the park.

There is an in-house cafe where you can grab a bite after the tours.


Kiwi Hatchery

There have been a concerning decline in the Kiwi Population all over the world and New Zealand houses around 68000 kiwis with an unfortunate rate of 2% decline each year. Rainbow Springs has dedicated itself to preserve this rare and exotic species of birds by borrowing Kiwi eggs from designated and operational sanctuaries, breed them in ideal conditions and increase the success rate of their survival. 

The hatchery has been in the park since 1995 and is now one of the largest and most successful Kiwi hatcheries that have eggs coming to them from several nearby sanctuaries and reserves from North Island. The purpose of your visit to their park is far more wholesome than you would have thought because 100%of the sale in tickets for the entry is contributed to the Kiwi conservation program.

How To Reach Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park


The park is situated at 192 Fairy Springs Road, Fairy Springs in Rotorua. There are several bus depots from the central of Rotorua junction to take you there. There is an abundance of parking spots around the center which has a paid entry. It is wheelchair accessible.
