The San Diego Botanic Garden located up north in Encinitas is another of the landmark gardens in San Diego that attracts hundreds of thousands of people every year. Spread across 37 acres, it is considered an oasis in the urban setting with the sprawling bushes, trails, blooming flowers, 29 unique gardens within the park, open for visitation throughout the week.

The garden is famous for its tropical forest with a grand waterfall within the forest and playing host to the largest Bamboo collection in the country. The landscaping work and attention to detail is intricate with some fine craftsmanship shown in the development & maintenance of the 4,000 plus plant species from across the world. This includes some rare Bamboo groves, desert gardens, native plants to California, Mediterranean climate landscapes, succulent gardens, a herb garden, and subtropical fruit garden.

Catering to wide demography of the public, the garden also presents opportunities for the young to grow their interests in gardening with large play-filled areas including tree houses, mountain streams, music-making areas, and more. The largest interactive children's garden on the west coast, Hamilton Children’s garden is present here.
