Located in the Yosemite National Park, the waterfalls enjoy the reputation of being the tallest fall in the entire North America with an elevation of 2,425 feet. The waterfalls are three-tiered consisting of the Upper Yosemite Fall, Middle Cascade and Lower Yosemite Fall. During the months of May and June, the water-flow is at the peak, making it the most ideal time to hike to the waterfalls.
Set against the mountainous range of Sierra Nevada, the waterfalls of the Yosemite Valley is believed to be occupied by the Ahwahneechees- Miwok Native Americans. The group are remembered as diligent fighters but they rather settled their conflicts and difficulties peacefully. During the 1851 Indian War, under the command of Major James D. Savage, the Mariposa Battalion was organized for the purpose of negotiating with the Native Americans and it was under this campaign that they found the Yosemite Valley.
Camping, lodging and recreational activities including hiking, fishing, rafting, golfing, biking, horseback riding, rock climbing can be enjoyed in near-by campgrounds- Mariposa Fairgrounds RV Park and Campground, Half Dome Village, Yosemite Creek Campgrounds, Bagby Campground, Horseshoe Bend Camping and Recreation, Barrett Cove Camping and Recreation, Dirt Flat Campsite. Sentinel falls, Horsetail fall, Nevada fall, Vernal fall, Wapama falls, Chilnualna falls and Bridalveil falls are other famous waterfalls inside the Yosemite National Park.
