The founder of the dynasty, Chaolung Sukhapa, constructed Charaideo as the initial capital of the Ahom rulers in about 1229 CE. The place is best known as the home of Ahom’s ancestral Gods. The large collection of maidams, tumuli, and burial sites of the Ahom kings and queens and other rulers is what makes the area most famous.
