Nestled at the southeastern end of the enchanting Kashmir Valley, Achabal Gardens, aptly known as "the places of the princess," stands as a testament to Mughal artistry and natural splendor. Located in the town of Achabal, Anantnag district, this small but captivating Mughal garden is steeped in history and adorned with breathtaking features.
Built around 1620 A.D. by the artistic hands of Mughal Emperor Jahangir's wife, Nur Jahan, the garden underwent a remodel between 1634-1640 A.D. by Jahanara, the daughter of Shah Jahan. Though subsequent decay befell the garden, it was resiliently revived on a smaller scale by Gulab Singh, transforming it into a public oasis that continues to captivate visitors.
Achabal Gardens boasts a unique allure with its main feature being a cascading waterfall gracefully descending into a serene pool. The surrounding landscape is adorned with rows of majestic Chinar trees, offering a picturesque backdrop to the garden's symphony of terraced steps, fountains, and vibrant flowers. Resting at the foot of a Himalayan hill, the garden spans an area of 6.20 hectares, creating an oasis of tranquility.
