Located on the banks of the Jhelum River in the Pulwama district in Srinagar, Kashmir, the Avantipur Temple is almost over 500 years old. It is famous for its intricate carvings and grand architecture. Also known as the Awantiswami Temple, this place is now left in ruins and is an ode to the rich history and cultural heritage of Kashmir. In the 9th century CE, this temple was built by King Avantivarman of the Utpala Dynasty. Dedicated to both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, the Avantipur Temple is of great religious significance among the locals.
