The Mansapurna Karni Mata Temple, built by Maharana Karan Singh and located atop the Machhala Magar hilltop, was quite a remote shrine for the general public to access. For this reason, it was not a much-visited temple previously. But in 2008, the ropeway line connecting the plain and the temple at the peak of the hill was commenced to make it easier for the public to reach the holy shrine and seek blessings of Goddess Karni. There is a staircase leading up to the temple now as well, which can be accessed from Maniklal Verma Park, but that route takes more than 15 minutes and is quite taxing and tiring a process.
The ropeway on the other hand not only offers a simple and comfortable means of reaching the temple in only five minutes but also provides a spectacular view of the surroundings as well. The 387 metres ropeway cable line that runs from Deendayal Upadhyay Park to Karni Mata Temple at hilltop also happens to be the first ropeway transportation of Rajasthan. Each of the cable cars, which are referred to as Gondolas, can accommodate six people for one trip, and six more on its trip back, the line is bidirectional. If you visit during the evening, at around 6 to 7:30 PM, you might even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a beautiful sunset from the cable cars.
