The Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca' d'Oro is an art museum situated in Ca' d'Oro on the Grand Canal in Venice. It translates to 'Golden House' owing to the once intricately gilded golden exteriors. The thin gold layer has faded, but the marble underneath still shines brilliantly.
The Galleria was built in the 15th century in an elegant Gothic style. Owned by Baron Giorgio Franchetti when he purchased and restored the building in 1890, it was upon his wish that it was converted into a museum. Most of the artwork and sculptures here were all property of the baron and were donated by him to the state. Andrea Magnetta’s famous San Sebastiano and other wonderful bronze statues and sculptures are on display today. The museum offers a gorgeous view of the Grand Canal framed by its Goth-style windows. The museum is reachable by water buses and gondolas.
