Must Know Before You Visit Chumbe Island

How to Reach : Head to Jungle Paradise Hotel (formerly Mbweni Ruins Hotel), situated on Mbweni Beach, south of Stone Town. This hotel is the starting point for the boat trip to Chumbe Island, departing at 10 am and taking around 30-40 minutes to reach the island. The return boat usually leaves at either 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM the following morning.

Overnight guests are always prioritized. For day trips, book at least 4 days in advance to check availability.

The rate includes:
  • Boat transport to and from the island from Jungle Paradise Hotel (formerly Mbweni Ruins Hotel) with a meeting time at 9:30 am for registration.
  • Freshly cooked lunch on the island.
  • Sodas, water, and snacks.
  • Boat, guide, and snorkelling equipment.
  • Snorkeling lessons, if needed, over one of East Africa’s diverse coral reefs.
  • Guided walk through the forest trails and inter-tidal area (if low tide).
  • Access to climb to the top of a historic lighthouse.
  • Tour of an eco-bungalow.
  • The return boat leaves Chumbe Island at 4:30 pm, arriving at Jungle Paradise Hotel around 5:00 pm, depending on sea conditions.
  • All taxes (15% VAT inclusive).
