Itinerary

Have ever heard that Istanbul also has its contemporary art? If you visit a place out of the usual museum trail, this exploration will be exciting for you. It lasts long 4-hour morning walking tour; see cutting-edge galleries of the Tophane and Karaköy neighborhoods. The last stop is the 1st museum to organize modern art exhibitions in the city. Your guide will describe how the contemporary art world is changing rapidly as a result of the political and economic shift towards the East. Istanbul straddles 2 continents and is often considered one of the leading cultural hot spots of Europe. But the galleries you will visit exhibit art by exciting artists from Turkey and beyond. Starting at Galtasaray High School, you will walk along Istiklal Street to visit some of the city’s leading art institutions. Very informative and interesting tour Our guide was very proficient in English, knowledgeable about the history and customs. He was able to answer all our questions and was patient while we went throu (Read More)gh the museum and gift shop. The only complaint was that when I called to inquire about the transportation I was told we would be picked up at the hotel and dropped off after the tour . We were picked up in time but after the tour we were told we would have to find our own transportation back to the hotel. That was somewhat a challenge. Our guide said he would talk to the company in the US because return transportation was not included as part of the tour. I would highly recommend this tour!

The walk leads around the Galatian Tower to former and current facilities of the Jewish community in Istanbul: synagogues, schools, private and commercial buildings are on the program. The long and ex (Read More)citing history of Judaism in Istanbul is vividly presented. We were able to follow the English explanations well. Conclusion: highly recommended not only for those interested in Judaism, but also if you want to experience the city away from the big tourist crowds.
