Mawun Beach is a classic horse shoe-shaped beach in southern Lombok with two hills cordoning off each side. The stunning beach boasts of soft white sand, gentle waves at each end for swimming, and stronger waves in the middle for water sports opportunities. Some adventurers even like to trek up the hills to check out the panoramic view of Lombok.
The Mawi Beach on the southern shores of Lombok, Indonesia is a surfer’s heaven with a beautiful stretch of sand across the beach and high waves for the surfing enthusiasts to ride. To reach this beach from Kuta, one has to hire either a bike or a car, and it takes around 30-45 minutes through a steep and rough road to reach the destination. The lesser-known Kuta Beach in Lombok is known for its stunning pristine, white sandy beaches and the healthy reef environment draw visitors from around the world. Situated almost 70km away from Lombok’s capital city of Mataram, Kuta Beach is also known for the great surf around its amazing coastline.
Nipah Beach in Lombok is situated a quick 10-minute drive away from Senggigi and is well-known for the plethora of warungs and beach-shacks that serve up freshly caught and grilled seafood. The snorkelling opportunities offer many for the avid snorkeler, with Nipah Beach’s healthy reef also makes for a wonderful experience as well.
One of the lesser-known Gili islands, Gili Nanggu is the polar opposite of the raucous and party-hard nature of the big three Gili islands. Gili Nanggu can be reached by an hour-and-a-half ferry ride away from Senggigi. The tiny island can be covered on foot in a quarter of an hour and is fringed by pristine white sand and perfect snorkelling opportunities.
A well-maintained road leading out south from Pelangan brings you to Mekaki Beach at the end of it, treating drivers with stunning vistas of the Indian Ocean along the way. One of Lombok’s finest surfing beaches, Mekaki beach is almost bereft of development, save for a few warungs in nearby Pelangan that serve up classic Indonesian street fare and Bintangs.
Known amongst locals for the wide variety of affordable street fare, for which people throng around Ampenan Beach. A short 10-minute ride away from the city centre of Mataram, Ampenan Beach is the place to go to watch spectacular sunsets as well. Be aware, however, that Ampenan Beach is not suited for swimming or beach activities and is more geared towards spending an evening by the sea with some food.
One of the more secluded beaches in Lombok, Tampah Beach is the place to go if you’re looking for a beach getaway where you’re sure to be bothered by nobody. Aside from a handful of warungs and beach lounge chairs, there won’t be any street vendors or hawkers pestering you to buy their wares, Tampah Beach and is located less than 15 km away from Kuta in Lombok.
