About Meghalaya Tourism: Meghalaya, the “abode of clouds,” is a Northeast Indian state that was once a part of Assam. Deemed to be the wettest region in the country, it is a spectacular tourist destination bound to leave you spellbound with its dense rainforests, green valleys, lakes and waterfalls and numerous heritage sites. Holidify has many amazing Meghalaya tour packages that are affordable and fully customisable.

To experience pleasant weather, plan a trip between October and June, and make sure to visit destinations like Shillong, Tura, Mawsynram, Cherrapunji, Jowai and Nongpoh, amongst others. The capital of Meghalaya, Shillong is a breathtaking hill station. It derives its name from the Lei Shyllong idol. Shillong is often referred to as the “Scotland of India” and boasts cool weather with the occasional drizzle.

Shillong is home to magnificent waterfalls such as the Nohsngithiang Falls, often called the Seven Sisters Falls, the steep Sweet Falls and Elephant Falls. Umiam Lake, a man made reservoir, and Ward’s Lake add to the region’s natural beauty, as do the lush green Laitlum Canyons and Kyllang Rock. Don’t forget to trek up to Shillong Peak to catch mesmerising glimpses of the entire city below.

There are various museums in Shillong including the Don Bosco Museum, Meghalaya State Museum and Ever Living Museum, and religious sites like the All Saints Church. Cherrapunji receives the most rain in a year and is synonymous with the Double Decker Root Bridge above the Umshiang River. It is also known for some of the world’s tallest waterfalls including the Nohkalikai Waterfalls and Mawsmai Falls.

Meghalaya tour packages include visits to attractions like Krem Phyllut that comprises caves, Eco Park with its orchids, Nokrek National Park, Khasi Monoliths and the gorgeous Mawkdok Dympep Valley View. A paradise for nature lovers, Jowai is famous for the Tyrshi Falls, India’s deepest caves: the Umlawan Caves, Syntu Ksair, a site of freedom struggle and Stone Bridge that the Jaintia Rajas once used.

Said to be the wettest place in the world, Mawsynram is a small village where several megaliths were discovered along with a stalagmite that resembles a Shivlinga. Head over to Mawlyngbna to explore its fossils and natural geyser and the holy Mawsmai Caves featuring flora and fauna. Finally, don’t miss out on Tura, with its Nokrek National Park, Pelga Falls, beautiful Garo Hills and the imposing Tura Peak.

By opting for a Meghalaya tour package, you empower yourself to explore this enchanting region without the challenges that can come with independent travel.

Best Time to Visit Meghalaya

The best time to visit Meghalaya is during the months of October to April, which is considered the dry season and offers pleasant weather for exploration. This period includes:

October to November (Autumn): The weather starts getting cooler, and the lush landscapes are a treat to explore. It's a great time for outdoor activities and trekking.

December to February (Winter): Winter months are cool but not excessively cold. It's an ideal time for sightseeing, enjoying local festivals, and witnessing the blooming of cherry blossoms in Shillong.

March to April (Spring): The weather becomes warmer, making it a comfortable time for outdoor activities and exploring the natural beauty of Meghalaya. The spring months bring vibrant flora and clear skies.

Avoid visiting during the monsoon season (June to September) as heavy rainfall can lead to landslides and disruptions in travel plans. While the landscapes are at their greenest during this time, it's important to prioritize safety and accessibility when planning your trip.
