Crescent Island, located on the eastern shore of Lake Naivasha in Kenya, is a private sanctuary that offers visitors a unique opportunity to walk among freely roaming wildlife in a stunning natural setting. Named for its crescent-shaped outline, the island is technically a peninsula, connected to the mainland during periods of low water levels. It is one of the most picturesque and serene destinations in Kenya, offering an up-close experience with nature and a tranquil escape from the busier tourist circuits.
Crescent Island gained international recognition in the 1980s when it served as a filming location for the movie Out of Africa. The movie's iconic scenes featuring large herds of wildlife and the expansive African landscape were shot on the island and in the surrounding areas of Lake Naivasha. Since then, the island has continued to attract visitors drawn by its natural beauty and the promise of a peaceful, immersive experience with Kenya’s wildlife.
