We booked this property the day before our stay as a last minute trip. We paid for a king size room. We arrived at around 2pm and, knowing check in wasnt until 3pm, decided we would have a drink in the bar first. As we walked in the main entrance, there was a woman (Im presuming the owner), sitting in a small reception booth on the left. I said we had a room booked but, as we were early to check in, was it okay to have a drink in the bar first? She was quite abrupt in telling me the bar wasnt open until 3pm because it was quiet. Its going to be quiet to be fair if you are not open.
We then went across the road to the Devonshire Arms which was very friendly and quite busy. Approximately 3.15, we went back across to the Charles Cotton to check in and book a table for our evening meal. After checking in, as I was going back outside to go for a short walk before going up to my room, a soaking wet couple were coming through the door, only to be told (by two separate staff members) very abruptly again, we dont open until 3! They informed both members of staff that it was, in fact, around 3.15pm and so were allowed inside. After a couple of hours walking around the village, my partner and I returned and sat in the bar for a quick drink. We then went up to our room (room no.1).
The room was nice enough, absolutely nothing special, however the bathroom was minuscule, the toilet had to be installed at a funny angle as it wouldnt have fit otherwise, and the mirror above the sink is about 1 metre too low! Tap dripped all night. No biscuits in the room. Mirror on dressing table fell apart as soon as I tried to move the angle of it. Old tatty mismatched coat hangers in wardrobe.
Desperately wanting a shower to warm up, I was so disappointed to find the water pressure was the worst I have EVER encountered and if you wanted the water anything other than freezing cold, the pressure went completely! How can you NOT provide a working shower?
Mis-sold room.
