Some nice features, but too many issues - Not Recommended - Will not stay here again

I paid approx. 200 Euro for standard room for 2 people for 1 night including breakfast. Main positives: 1. Great location right in centre of town; 2. Large spacious room & bathroom; calming decoration with antique look furniture - a nice place to be; 3. Staff were friendly & helpful

Negatives: 1. WiFi very poor, not even possible to stream movie on iPad; Reception told me it was because too many people were using WiFi; they suggested I come to reception area for better connection! Today good WiFi is essential and it is not acceptable for 4* Hotel to have bad WiFi - this is real show stopper. 2. Smart TV only had French Channels - no use for German wife who speaks German & English; 3. Double bed was on wheels with no locking mechanism, so when you tried to sit up in bed, it just rolled forward - so impossible to sit up in bed, read book, or enjoy evening in otherwise nice room. 4. When booking, I requested a place in hotel 'Private Parking at 30 Euro per night' - this was essential requirement when travelling from London by car; Hotel just sent me list of public parkings without any explanation - not exactly going the extra mile for guest making special request! When I called, Hotel was very helpful, explaining that their private car park was already full, and I should log onto Indigo Public Car Park, and pre-book a place - this worked well. I later discovered that Hotel 'Private Car Park' only has 3 places, so nearly always full - so to advertise 'private parking available' is False Marketing - drivers beware! 5. At time of booking, I said I would be arriving 11:00 - 12:00 and got no reply from hotel. On arrival at 13:15, I was told that room would not be available until 16:00. So after long drive from London, we had to spend 3 hours outside in cold/ rain until room was ready. I offered to pay extra for room upgrade to any available room, but nothing was doing. The next morning we checked out at 08:00 - so does it really take 8 hours to clean a room?

Terrible all round. Avoid !!!!

The location but nothing else

Staff were ignorant and mostly didnt speak English. Bathroom smelt of drains throughout stay. Not allowed to check in until 4.00pm although booking says 3.00pm. Breakfast was terrible and we just had cereal and went to get something outside. Screws sticking out of carpet in bathroom ended with a damaged toe and now needs treatment. Very noisy floorboards from adjoining rooms above and below. 4 star hotel it is not ! One of the worst places we have stayed in throughout Europe ! They reduced my 60 to days car parking charge to help compensate my injustice which now needs hospital treatment as gone septic due to badly fitting floor trims in room. Terrible service, terrible food, terrible smells, I think you get my drift.

The Hotel Carlton is situated in the heart of Lille but lacks attention to detail for its guests.

The Hotel Carlton has a prime spot in Lille and its location is fantastic.

The bathroom - Our room had a corner bath as our washing facilities, which you also had a slippery step to get in and out of. Very dated and this was not specified on our booking as photos show a bath with shower. We booked the Hotel for 3 nights and we only had the room cleaned once. I reported this to Reception where they replaced our towels but I think this is unacceptable from a 4 Star hotel as we did not receive fresh cups for our coffee, water or Mini Bar replenished.

Central position

Dark and dingy coloured walls, bedroom doors and radiators. Walls were material so difficult to change but everything else was dark brown too, except for ceilings. Not 4 star, in our opinion - more like 3 star Downstairs whisky/coffee/tea bar never open Tired and dated looking furnishings

Amazing location. Really nice room with a great view

The recent history of scandals. Once we read about them we felt bad staying there. The staff could have been a bit warmer. The 4pm check-in is ridiculously late.

The locations

The hall was dirty. The windows were old, it was a lot of wind outside and the windows creaked all night so we couldnt sleep. But the bad actually was very comfortable .

Brilliant location in heart of Lille with excellent View cocktail bar.

Good location in the heart of Lille & close to shops & Christmas markets. Breakfast is good but can get very busy. The View bar is very good but get there early to get a window seat as go very fast. Cocktails are good. Make sure you book hotel parking early as only have 3 spaces around corner but lots of other car parks close by.

Quite old fashioned hotel with old bathrooms but nice rooms.

Very good

The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Lille, and appears classy, even with a touch of luxury. The building is probably quite old, the floors in the rooms seemed particularly old (uneven) but for me it only added to the charm of the place :) The rooms are very comfortable, everything is functional. The breakfast was a bit pricey, the quality of food was good but there wasn't too much of a choice.

A rather huge deposit was requested upon check-in (which was indeed noted on the reservation), but the reception staff refused to accept cash payment; finally they agreed but it was not a very nice experience.

Disappointing

Would not stay here again. Way over priced.

Location was excellent

Why is the toilet in a separate room? This makes no sense. Would not stay here again just because of this. Also the view restaurant service and food was awful and over priced. So disappointed for the cost of this stay.
