Perfect stay in a fabulous, friendly hotel

Beautiful building with original features and stunning decor in keeping with this. Location perfect, only a few minutes walk from town but far enough to be peaceful and quiet. Very clean, comfortable, well facilitated bedrooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely breakfast. A fabulous stay

Very comfortable. Lovely food. Car park expensive.

Loved that it used to be the old Shire Hall, where Durham County Council was based, then the University. It was clearly a listed building and the traditional features have been preserved. The conversion is sympathetic and the rooms are very good. The bathrooms were large and again, a blend of sympathetic to the history, but also modern and well appointed.

The breakfast was great and location was excellent

The pipework and heating in the room was located above the ceiling behind a access hatch of which you could hear through the night that was a bit annoying.

Cleanliness an issue

Beautiful building, steakhouse and bar. Location very good. However, let down by cleanliness. Real shame.

Room was dirty, floor and rug needed cleaning and we had blood on the bedding which, when reported, was ignored. Parking is also pricey at 20GBP per night and upon checkout receptionist went to overcharge for parking and breakfast without checking with us.
