Our arrival to Strasbourg was delayed due to traffic issues. I messaged Pierre, the host that was to meet us, and was told that he could not wait and if we arrived after 6 we would have to wait until much later to gain access to the apartment. Having no alternative, we rushed, and pulled into the packed parking garage in an unfamiliar city. Because of the timing, I left the rest of my party there and having no idea where I was and terrified I would miss the deadline, my daughter and I ran to the apartment. Pierre very quickly reviewed the apartment, making sure to tell me that if there were issues, call the owner not him, he could not help us. During the review, Pierre did mention the hot water and electricity might go out and showed me the instructions on how to restart it. I had no idea that we would have hot water problems several times during every shower for the duration of our stay. I guess the fact that they actually had taken the time to print restart instructions with photos and tape to the hot water heater should have given me a clue. Obviously this was a known issue that was not divulged prior to our stay.
As a note, if you are traveling during the Christmas markets, be aware, you park in a garage off the island and have to go through a security check onto the island. This adds a bit of time especially if you have luggage. Also, the apartment is a 3rd floor walk up which I knew but the stairs are very narrow and steep.
