The property felt very business like and not very homely compared to many properties we have stayed in. Just last week we stayed in another property that felt as if it was someones home as it had every amenity you could ever need or imagine, but we never got that vibe here.
The potential of a beautiful building, with lovely views, a nice hot tub and being in a great county - is amazing. However it felt as though perhaps these great features are heavily relied on for guests experience and meant that there was a lack of focus elsewhere as elements felt a little tired.
For example, the metal chairs outside were very rusty, the barbecue was cheap, full of ash and also rusting. The clothes horse barely stands up, there was one disposable dish cloth for both washing up and wiping sides down, barely any washing up liquid left when we arrived.
The lawn wasnt mowed and the various bits of grassland to the sides of the property (not the fields that obviously dont belong to the property) are overgrown with nettles and long grass. A bit of TLC there would be good as it looks a bit scruffy.
These last few points are relatively trivial individually and were not worthy of being raised to the owners whilst there, but reflect our overall feeling that the property is a little unloved.
We booked for 3 people, yet were only 2 bath towels provided. I did text the host about this and he advised it must have been a glitch in the booking process, but it would be impossible to provide another towel until the day we checked out. This was a little disappointing and there was no apology, and all he suggested was to use a bath mat to dry our 3 year old not what you expect really for a luxury property.
Finally, its on quite a busy road so we were woken up by traffic a couple of mornings, which spoilt the countryside feel.
