The reception area is a fiasco and shameful for a 5* Hotel. Despite two emails assuring us they would do their utmost to get us an early check-in, they made no effort whatsoever and we were kept waiting 5 hours until exactly 4pm. We were not alone, as we sat watching guest after guest queue at reception only to be told their room wasn't ready, even people with small children. We spoke to others who said they were shouted at by receptionists and we saw several arguments. Every day the reception was packed with tired and frazzled people made to wait.
The only people we saw getting checked in straight away were French, not sure if it was a coincidence or whether foreigners are de-prioritised. Understand it's a busy time but don't say "Please do not hesitate to let us know your estimated time of arrival and we will do our best to prepare it" if you have no intention of doing so. Or at the very least, as proper 5* hotels do, invite the people to the bar and give them a complimentary drink and snacks whilst waiting. We felt like herded cattle.
When we were finally put in our 500 a night room it overlooked the dustbins and had a ridiculous toilet cubicle that was so small you had to leave the door open to stand up and turn around.
Simply put, this was by no means the worst hotel we ever stayed in but probably the worst 5* and definitely the worst reception.
