    Cool pub, good quality food and pleasant atmosphere but poor room
    The pub is tucked away in a quiet residential area, which was unexpected, but was a short 8-10 minute walk to the town center (good location). The room was quirky which was something we liked the look of when booking and we also had a meal at the bar on our second evening (I was unwell, so we didn't venture out) and the food was pretty good. The bar itself is cool and we experienced a quiz night (by accident, more on that below!) and it was a really fun, cool vibe. It was also busy, with customers talking to each other and having a generally great time, which created an even better atmosphere.

    We met a lady who was (we think) the landlady / owner, and she was very engaging and friendly, so we feel a little bad leaving negative comments. However, when we arrived and entered staff were playing cards with some customers on the bar. They looked at us, soaking wet and with luggage, and then went back to playing cards! We waited about a minute or two while they finished before even greeting us. It might not sound like much but when you are stood there watching someone ignore you, the seconds tick by quite slowly, so we didn't get off to a great start. When we got to our room, it all looked ok at a glance but it the dcor was tired and dated, and parts of the room were very dirty. The chaise lounge type sofa at the end of the bed was crusted in dust and dirt around the cushioning, and there were hairs of all varieties on / in / around it. The bathroom seemed to have been done on an extreme budget as well, it was just very disappointing. The bed was also odd, with one of the softest and most uncomfortable mattresses we've experienced. I'm an average size / weight guy, and my wife is slim, but it was so soft we both woke up with bad backs / necks and did not feel rested at all. Of course, we knew the price of the room before booking and, based on the room photos we viewed online and the description of the continental breakfast (as there is no cooked breakfast option), we were happy to pay it. However, having experienced the room and seen the breakfast (a couple of muffins, a single orange and a small bag of some sort of granola) I don't think the value is there. We didn't eat any of the breakfast items - we didn't want cake that early in the morning.

    Comfortable stay in a quiet location.
    General deco and location.
    Compared to the deco of the pub/restaurant and rooms, the bathrooms are a little tired: missing shower door and shower valve loose and kept falling off. (First room we had the toilet cistern kept leaking into the toilet and filling so was a noise issue (resolved by moving us to another room)).

    A great stay in a traditional pub
    The room was spacious and clean, the bed very comfortable. The in-room breakfast was perfect for the morning - muffin, yoghurt, granola, tea and coffee. Self-check out was great, and the team offered a little flexibility on check out time. The pub is on a residential street, about 15 mins walk from the town centre. They provide a parking permit for the residual zone, and there's plenty of space to park. The room was above the bar, but we heard very little noise from it. The pub itself is lovely - bustling on the last saturday before christmas - with a good selection of wine and beer - and although we didn't eat there, the food looked lovely.

    Breakfast would be nice but it was clear when we booked that it wasnt available. Would not put me off staying there again

    Very good, would stay again, but could understand that the decor would not appeal to all
    Very friendly, loads of character, meals looked good value and tasty, though we actually didnt eat there , breakfast very tasty and didnt miss the cooked breakfast, location was very good.
    Room was a bit too dark , and there was no view out of the window in our room as it was a frosted glass.
