How Serious Is The Law?
It was announced back in January that sale and consumption of alcohol will be banned and the new stricter law has approved of this new rule with a penalty of up to INR 2000 or a three-month jail tenure upon violation. The Goan Government updated the Registration of Tourist Trade Act to regulate fines on drinking and cooking on the beaches. Why This Law?
After an unfortunate incident of two drunk tourists drowning at Morjim beach on 9th of November, Goa has now intensified the crackdown. While addressing the reporters, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, "From now on, there will be enforcement of the law to prevent people from drinking on the beaches." He also stated that additional police force would be pressed on the beaches to ensure that people do not drink and swim.We hope this crackdown will help decrease the rate of such terrible incidents in the future while keeping the tourist energy and spirits as high as always!
