The BAPS Hindu Mandir is the first traditional Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi. Also known as Sri Swaminarayan Mandir, it is inspired by Pramukh Swami Maharaj of Swaminarayan Sanstha, embodying the essence of harmony and unity among diverse cultures and faiths. Situated on 27 acres of land, it is constructed from pink sandstone from Rajasthan and marble from Italy. There are shrines dedicated to Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman, Shiva and Parvati.
The mandir's intricate design and craftsmanship symbolize a harmonious blend of traditional Hindu architecture with elements reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the region. The carvings adorning its walls depict not only Hindu mythology but also narratives from Arabian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Native American civilizations, symbolizing the shared heritage and interconnectedness of humanity. Since opening its doors to the public in March 2024, the mandir has welcomed thousands of visitors, offering a space for spiritual reflection, cultural exchange, and community engagement. Its integrated complex, comprising prayer halls, exhibitions, learning areas, and thematic gardens, serves as a beacon of cultural enrichment and social cohesion.
