Masdar City

A one-of-its-kind revolutionary wonder of Abu Dhabi, Masdar City is entirely powered by renewable energy. This planned city is soon to pave the way for sustainable-energy-run cities in the near future.

Nestled in close proximity to Abu Dhabi Airport, Masdar City is a project initiated by the Abu Dhabi in the year 2008 with a goal of engineering a city of the future. With the aim of becoming one of the most eco-friendly cities amid rapid urbanization, today it is the world's first and only carbon-neutral city driven by renewable energy and zero-waste.

Cool breeze is circulated around the city on streets and alleys through a huge central Arabic wind tunnel making weather pleasant even during extremely high temperature. It is, however, an education hub with a graduate-research university and centres focusing on achieving sustainability and renewable energy. In fact, power at Masdar is harnessed by solar energy, with the largest photovoltaic of UAE being installed at rooftops.

The place is open for the public without any charge. The normal cars are not allowed inside the place. The key highlight of the city is a unique mode of transportation i.e. small-unmanned electric cars called Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) pods. Just leave your cars at the parking area and hop onto these electric pods that will take you directly to the city centre. Once inside, you can cherish the unique architecture or relax at the plethora of cafes and restaurants. With its great architecture and efficient utilization of technology, Masdar City is a perfect place for sci-fi lovers and architecture buffs.
