United Arab Emirates largest natural island and wildlife reserve, Sir Bani Yas Island is located in the Western region of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founder made an initiative to transform the region into a beautiful natural reserve, giving a home to endangered species. The reserve almost parallels to a South African wildlife sanctuary housing oryxes, gazelles, hyenas, jackals, and cheetahs. Embellished with green carpets and over 2.5 million tree including rare species like thorn acacia or gum tree, the island encapsulates a bird sanctuary holding indigenous to the region as well. The island is a hub for adventure activities kayaking, mountain biking, archery, hiking and snorkeling which showcase the natural surroundings. With the evolution of the island, it also bears luxury resorts for its tourists extending great hospitality. The island holds the responsibility for animal conservation giving animals open spaces to roam about and also protection of critically endangered or vulnerable species like sea turtles, sand gazelles, Urial sheep, Barbary sheep, and Arabian tahr and oryx.
