Renowned as the oldest bridge in Sri Lanka, Bogoda Ancient Wooden Bridge in Badulla district was built during the Dambadeniya era between 1220 - 1345 A.D.

Renowned as the oldest bridge in Sri Lanka, Bogoda Ancient Wooden Bridge in Badulla district was built during the Dambadeniya era between 1220 - 1345 A.D. Situated towards the west of Badulla, the bridge was constructed using only wood, including wooden nails. The roof of the bridge has been inspired by the Kingdom of Kandy. The wooden fence on either side of the bridge features several ancient decorations. The wood used to build the bridge is mainly deduced from jackfruit trees and kumbuk trees. Bogoda Ancient Wooden Bridge was constructed above the Gallanda Oya, which connects two places - Kandy and Badulla through an ancient pathway.
