Banyan trees have always found a place of reverence in Balinese culture, and the landmark Singapadu Banyan Tree in Singapadu, Gianyar, is no different. Once used as a venue for community meetings, the massive tree even now is close to the local meeting hall and is hard to miss while travelling through the area.
Known to the Balinese as the 'King of Trees', the banyan tree is considered sacred and is a symbol of life eternal. The banyan tree in Singapadu is the village's central point and offerings are usually placed under it to show their reverence. Everything in Singapadu moves outwardly from the banyan tree.
