Known as the Red Beach, Pulau Merah has its own island which has red soil and green vegetation and is popular for its soft sandy beach and a long coastline. This beach is easily accessible from Banyuwangi’s city center. Pulau Merah lies about 60 kilometers south of the city and it will take about two and a half hours’ drive to reach this marvelous shoreline. It’s difficult to find public transport around there and hence it is recommended to hire a car while visiting this beach.
Pulau Merah is a popular international surfing spot and has also hosted many pro surfing competitions. You’ll find a lot of people snorkeling along the coral reefs out to sea.
The sunset at Pulau Merah is spectacular and you can hire yourself a beach bed for 50,000 IDR to relax and watch the waves roll with the stunning view of the golden sunset behind.
