The Gate of Spalen is a well-preserved medieval city gate located at the edge of Basel’s Old Town, approximately a 10-minute walk from the city center. Built in the 14th century, it features a striking central tower flanked by two smaller round towers, adorned with intricate stonework and Basel's heraldic symbols.
Spalentor or the Gate of Spalen is one of the three remaining gateways to the city. Several people consider the Gate of Spalen to be the most beautiful of the lot. Apart from being a heritage site, this gate is also an important landmark of the city. Built using some really gorgeous bricks, it has a square-shaped main tower in the centre and two round towers on either side. It also sports a clock that tells the local time.æ
