Double Decker Living Root Bridge: An astonishing partly artifical structure, Double Decker Living Root Bridge is a highly visited place in Cherrapunji,  3 km from Tyrna Village. It is a blend of nature’s wonder and the Khasi tribe’s innovation. The roots of trees entwine with each other to form a dual canopy-like structure. Dawki: A lovely town on the international border between India and Bangladesh, Dawki is famous for its emerald-colored Umngot River. The beautiful and India’s one of the cleanest rivers flows between Khasi and Jaintia Hills to Bangladesh. Walk on the suspension bridge set in the British era and enjoy fish delicacies. Walk around Thangkharang Park: Plan a day trip with your family to visit Thangkharang Park along with Khoh Ramhah rock (resemblance to Shivling) and the Kynrem Falls (three-tiered fall). Walk around the park spread across 100 acres of land and click pictures of the blooming fauna.

Adventure Sports at Mawlyngbna: Mawlyngbna is a village about 15 km from Mawsynram. It is well-known for its adventure park, offering kayaking, zip-lining, boating, fishing, etc. There is a large forest having pitcher plant endangered species, animal fossils dating back millions of years, and many natural springs at Mawlyngbna.

A 5 Day Nongkrem Dance Festival: Be a part of the famous Nongkrem Dance Festival,which takes place in November. In this colorful festival, natives thank deities for good harvests, offer the clan’s ancestors food, and pray to God for prosperity. Get a chase to greet and dance with the locales.

Pray at Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church: Attend prayers at the historic Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church, built in 1841 AD. Reportedly, it is Meghalaya’s first church.

Best Time to Visit Cherrapunji

Early summers and winters are prime seasons to visit Meghalaya. The average temperature of Cherrapunji is 15°C but you will always find rain at Cherrapunji, so prepare for the tour accordingly. If you love rain,March and early April are good times to visit. Whereas, avoid planning a tour from May to September, in the peak monsoon season.

With the possibility of rainfall for a few days, the weather from October to February is the best time to visit Cherrapunji. In the winter, you may expect sunny days with little to no rainfall, creating an ideal time for outdoor activities and visiting the double-decker root bridge and caves. If you visit Cherrapunji in November, you can dance to the beats at the Nongkrem Dance Festival.

How to Reach Cherrapunji

Airways: Guwahati Airport, 181 km from Cherrapunj, is the nearest airport to Cherrapunji, connecting to major Indian cities. From there, you can book a cab. Technically, Umroi Airport in Shillong is the closest (91 km) to Cherrapunji but is not well-connected.

Railways: Guwahati Railway Station is the nearest to Cherrapunji and is well-connected to the nation. It is better to take a cab from the station and enjoy the serene environment.

Roadways: Book a cab or reserve a Volvo bus to enjoy your journey to Cherrapunji by road. You can also reach Sohra Bus Stand in Shillong,hire a cab and enjoy 2 hour's journey by road. If you are using your convenience, take NH 40 and SH 5 to reach Cherrapunji from Shillong.
