Also Refered As:Dawei, also called as Tavoy is a city on the northern bank of the Dawei River in southeastern Myanmar. Dawei is famous for its islands home to crystal clear beaches, tropical jungles, hot springs and a popular beach destination for locals and foreign tourists. Most of the beaches are secluded, which draws tourists that want a quiet beach vacation.
Dawei is the capital of Tanintharyi Region and is an important trade port connecting neighbouring countries. The city derives its name Dawei from the local Mon language, which means Hawai, referring to the Buddha's crossed-legs sitting posture on the throne. The town is small but pretty and unlike other cities in architecture.
Due to its location at the mouth of rivers, Dawei is prone to flooding during the monsoon. Here, you can find of rows of traditional wooden houses, which is unique to Dawei, along with colonial structures, creating a fabulous blend of different periods. As it receives fewer tourists, Dawei is also inexpensive for all it offers, so make the most of it until this lasts.
