Dubrovnik Cathedral

Dubrovnik Cathedral is a magnificent religious landmark located in the heart of the historic city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Many visitors are drawn to this cathedral for its treasury, which houses a collection of sacred relics, exquisite liturgical objects, and ancient manuscripts, adding to its awe-inspiring ambiance.

Dubrovnik Cathedral is actually the third church on this site. The first was an early Christian church built in the 7th century. This was followed by a cathedral that according to local legend was financed through a donation from King Richard the Lionheart. This new Romanesque cathedral was damaged during the major 1667 earthquake and rebuilt in the baroque style we see today. Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by a burst of opulence. The interior dazzles with a harmonious blend of styles, including Baroque altars, splendid marble columns, and captivating frescoes adorning the vaulted ceilings. Beyond its architectural grandeur, the cathedral holds a rich history. It serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dubrovnik and is a cultural symbol for generations of Dubrovnik's inhabitants.
