Onforio’s fountains are two different-sized fountains on Stradun located in two different locations. With, the big fountain being the more popular, it is one of the best spots to people-watch and is located next to the Pile gate. The water from both fountains is perfectly fit to drink.
The big fountain in front of the St. Savior Church and the small one next to the City Guard building were constructed between 1438 to 1440. The Big Onforio’s Fountain is a container with sixteen sides covered by a Cupola and was built at the end of the aqueduct system. Each of its sixteen sides is decorated with beautiful maskerons (stones carved masked faces). The Small Onofrio’s Fountain was built to supply water to the Luza Square market, at the other end of Stradun. The sculpting on this and the big fountain as well was done by Petar Martinov from Milano.
