Statue of Abbe Faria was built in the honor of an acclaimed hypnotist, Abbe Jose Custodia Faria. He was a Luso-Goan Catholic monk, a pioneer of the scientific study of hypnotism and the first one to ever demonstrate and prove its existence. The historic statue made of bronze was installed in the state capital in 1945 and depicts Abbe Faria hypnotising a woman. The statue is located at a small square just near the Secretariat Building in Panjim.
