Green Island is a small coral cay located 27 kilometers off the coast of Cairns, Australia, within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Known for its lush rainforest and surrounding coral reefs, it offers snorkeling, scuba diving, and glass-bottom boat tours to explore vibrant marine life. Accessible by ferry, the island also features walking trails and a resort, making it a popular destination for day trips and extended stays.
Home to over 120 plant species, the island is actually a protected National Park. The island also sees tons of coral gardens around it and a vibrant bird life as well. This 6,000 year old wonder is a must visit attraction right next to Cairns. You can go walking around, exploring the island (which is not very large in size), or dive into the beautiful coral gardens surrounding it. The resort itself was built in such a way as to minimise any impact on the natural surroundings, and most trees protruding into the resort areas were left as is.
