A massive property of 132 acres of land Houston Botanic Garden is a host of two main gardens; the Global Collection Garden and the Susan Garver Family Discovery Garden. 70 acre of land of the garden is on an island in Sims Bayu. The garden is divided into six different distinct zones: a global garden collection, a culinary garden that has edible and medicinal plants, a lagoon encircled with a boardwalk maze, a family centre, coastal prairie and water wetlands along the islands.
The Global collection garden which spreads across three acres of land has over 350 species of plants, there are also some rare plants like maples, lilies and African Grass. The Family Discovery Garden on the other hand has a plenty of space to roam, water machines and a boardwalk maze encompassing a lagoon. It also allows people to learn new planting techniques and understand the nutritional significance of plants as they grow organic produce in the garden.
