Located in a posh locale of Jakarta, Jalan Surabaya is an eclectic mix of street culture, cafes, antique shops, and more. On one side of the road, there are a number of stalls selling antiques like wooden puppets, ceramics, and porcelain. Parallel to it, Jalan Surabaya is lined by some of the best cafes in Jakarta.
The Jalan Surabaya flea market has been there since the 1970s. Occupying a 500-yard stretch, Jalan Surabaya is situated in one of Jakarta’s upscale residential areas. On one side of this flea market, there are all kinds of stores with antique pieces and the other side of the road is involved in selling luggage.
The flea market sells antique pieces such as Batik, Salvaged accessories from ships, old stamps and coins, lampshades, old phones, old gadgets, wood carvings, book and many more.
A favourite and popular stop in Jalan Surabaya is Lian Records. The shop contains a huge collection of famed Indonesian artist, Lian Nasution's works. The store was opened in the 1950s and has a lot to offer.
The flea market lacks formal places to eat and drink but it is always good to grab a bite while shopping. The Giyanti Coffee Roastery is a cafe that prides itself on serving local coffee beans. This cafe also serves favourites such as chicken pie, lamington and local delicacy, bolu pandan (pandan cake).
