Bioluminescent Plankton

You can watch Bioluminescent plankton only where the beach coast is clear of pollution, and there is no light. The glowing plankton comes in different sizes, shapes and colours. The most common colour is blue, and the rare colours include red, orange and green. The intensity with which they glow also varies on many factors. Rapid waves cause motion leading them to react, which greats sparkle in the water.

There are snorkelling plankton tours, where you can snorkel at night to watch the glittering plankton up close. If you make swift motions in the waters while snorkelling close to them, the sparkle of the plankton increases. Although they are harmless, coming in contact with these plankton causes rashes and itch. So you are advised to steer away by tour guides if you opt for snorkelling at night to watch bioluminescent plankton. If you don't want to join any tours but still want to snorkel close to this plankton, then you can rent snorkel gears from the shops close by or from the guesthouses and hotels, which rent it out for a small fee.
