Things to Do at Mamutik Island

Snorkelling
Snorkelling  at Mamutik Island off Kota Kinabalu coast is indeed an experience to cherish. The snorkeling gear (snorkel, fin, life jacket and mask) can be rented from the shop located next to the Koktas Café on the island. The rocky beach on the west and the front of the coral beach are considered the best spots for snorkeling. The coral beach is full of big yellow and brown coloured corals.

Jungle Trekking
Walk the 385 meters trail through a forested ridge located to the north of the island. However, don’t expect a great variety of flora and fauna in the forest although there’s a chance one may spot Philippines Megapod, a red chicken-faced bird.

Camping
One can camp at the beach after taking permission of the park’s warden. The camping charges are RM 5 for adults and RM 2 for children. The rental charges of the camping tent are RM 30 per night.

How to Reach Mamutik Island

Take a boat priced at RM 30 per day from any of the boat terminals in Kota Kinabalu. It will take about 10 minutes to reach the island and the boat leaves every 1 hour.
