Cathedral of Lima, Lima Overview

It is located next to the Palacio Arzobispal, the cathedral resides on the plot of land that Pizarro designated for the cityÍs first church in 1535. Though it retains a baroque facade, the building has been built and rebuilt numerous times.

The cathedral's elaborate colonial exterior looks intact, but it has suffered plenty of wear and tear over the years from earthquakes since its construction in the 1530s. Step inside the huge cathedral via one of its grand three doors and youÍll find a lofty white and gold interior with soaring ribbed ceilings, mosaic chapels and pillared aisles.
