The National Archaeological Museum of Naples is famous for its massive collection of ancient artifacts. Pompeii and Herculaneum take up the majority of the museum space. The Farnese bull is the most famous artifact here.Â
When Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, it ruined these two cities. The devastation of Pompeii and Herculaneum by the Vesuvius volcano is depicted in computer animations, photographs, and video footage at the National Archaeological Museum. It also houses a colossal gemstone collection, including the globe's biggest gem (cameo), and a prehistory department.
In addition, the Farnese collection, discovered in the 16th Century in Rome during work on the Thermes of Caracalla, is also exhibited at the MANN.
