The ancient street, Via Toledo, is a popular tourist attraction that houses several historic museums, shops, and monuments. Via Toledo has everything from old shops and monuments to churches, museums, great cafes, and modern chains. It is one of the main shopping streets in Naples.
The public shopping arcade of Galleria Umberto 1 is a beautiful example of 19th-century Roman architecture and one of Naples' most popular shopping sprees. Pedro de Toledo, 2nd Duke of Villafranca, the viceroy of Spain, built this 2-kilometer-long avenue in 1536. The Thoroughfare, which connects two significant city squares and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area, is home to numerous monumental and religious structures like the Real Teatro di San Carlo, the Royal Palace of Naples and the Piazza del Plebiscito and the Piazza Dante, amongst others.
