The beautiful sanctuary is surrounded by the Chambal river, known to be one of the cleanest river of India. It provides you a combination of a unique and unpolluted habitat, abundant wildlife and amazing landscapes, medieval temples and magnificent ancient ruins, animal fairs and naga sadhus, far far away from the chaos of the city. Tourists usually rent a motorized boat and go up and down the river as it flows through the ravines which makes for a serene experience. The boatmen are excellent at maneuvering as close to the birds and animals as possible without disturbing them to give you the opportunity to sight beautiful animals.

Chambal River Safari
The Chambal River Safari is the highlight of the sanctuary. The river safari is almost 3 hours long and is the best way to enjoy the view of the rare and endangered species. Chambal river is the lifeline of the forest and meanders its way across the three states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Boats with a seating capacity of few more than a dozen people are arranged by the Chambal Safari Lodge. These boats carry the people through the river, exploring the beautiful flora and fauna. Boats also have guides for the tourists. The endangered Gharial and Ganges River Dolphin are the major attractions of the sanctuary. Other inhabitants of the sanctuary include Muggar crocodile, Bengal Fox, Indian Grey Mongoose, Smooth-coated Otter, Striped Hyaena and Indian Wolf. Chambal is also home to 8 out of 26 rare turtle species found in India. The park is also a haven for many migratory birds.
