This canal, named after Government Agent of Revenue and Commerce Gavin Hamilton, connects Puttalam to Colombo, passing through Negombo along the way. It was designed to drain saltwater out of the Muthurajawela wetlands and facilitates transport to the harbour. Visitors can walk or bicycle along the paths alongside Hamilton Canal, taking in the beauty of Negombo and its small villages along the way. Locals offer boat rides on the canal as well.
