Sea Gate

The Sea Gate is the fortified entry point into the old town of Rhodes. It is located south of Kolóna's fishing port and connects the harbor with the walled city. It can be a perfect starting point for foot exploration of the Old Town. Nearby attractions include the Palace of the Grand Master and the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes. The gate looks more beautiful, especially when illuminated at night.

The gate itself, with its two large round towers and historical reliefs, offers a glimpse into the medieval past. It leads you into the bustling old town, filled with shops, restaurants, and historical landmarks. The gate was last restored in 1951 after the north tower suffered damage during World War II. Today, it stands proudly, a symbol of the resilience and enduring legacy of Rhodes. It features intricate reliefs and coats of arms, including depictions of the Virgin Mary, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Peter. The interior side showcases an angel with the coats of arms of the Order of Saint John, making it an architectural marvel.
