Mitai Maori Village offers an authentic cultural experience showcasing Maori traditions, performances, and cuisine. Visitors can witness the ceremonial waka (war canoe) on a sacred stream, enjoy a captivating haka and poi dance, and savor a traditional hangi meal. The evening experience also includes guided walks to see glowworms and learn about Maori customs and connection to nature, making it a unique insight into New Zealand’s indigenous culture.
Dipped in the cultural spell of the Maoris amongst traditional music, dance and food, evenings at the Mitai Maori village in Rotorua, New Zealand, are a delight to be present. A warm reception awaits the guests right from their place of staying. Upon reaching the village, the community lays down the rules and parameters they follow, along with selecting a ‘Chief’ from the visitor group. With this, the ceremony of Pohiri begins, which is to welcome the guests to the sacred Maori lands.
Set in the midst of beautiful scenic views, the Mitai Maori Village Experience bewitches you with the sight Maori warriors in their traditional attires paddling in with the canoes, following which are the cultural shows for the evening. With music, dance and games, the evening is bundled with amusing and powerful performances like the ‘Haka’ war dance and Poi dance, and it features the customs and art of the Maoris.
The place is lit up by the glow worms and has a sacred freshwater spring, the “Fairy Spring” with an abundance of flora and fauna. In the dining service, traditionally cooked ‘Hangi’, which is lifted straight from the ground is available for the guests to enjoy and also to learn about its preparation.
