Located in the old town the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception was built on the site of the very first holy mass held in California in 1769. The church was only completed in the year 1917 several years after the cornerstone was placed in the year 1868 due to various factors like fire and lack of funding. It was dedicated by the John Cantwell archbishop of Los Angeles at the time. The parish now serves 300 families in San Diego and draws visitors from across the world due to its rich history.
